This network is coordinated by the Institut français du Royaume-Uni and is composed of researchers at the Universities of  St AndrewsEdinburgh, and Glasgow.

The Network organises an annual Interdisciplinary Seminar where doctoral students working at the three institutions are invited to present their work, along with a keynote speaker from France whose works are key in the Seminar’s selected research topic.

The 2023 edition of the seminar will start on Thursday 2nd March, at the Institut français d’Écosse on West Parliament Square, Edinburgh EH1 1RF. Our guest speaker will be Anne Simon, from the École normale supérieure. A postgraduate seminar, with PhD researchers based in France and Scotland, will take place the following day (Friday 3rd March).

Previous editions

The inaugural seminar took place at the Institut français d’Écosse on 5th December 2014, on the theme of “Paysage/Landscape”. Please click here for further details about the 2014 seminar. The themes examined in subsequent seminars have included “Migrations: migration des personnes, migration des idées, migration des images” (2015 seminar); “Témoignages” (2016 edition), “Violence” (2017) and “Identity / Identité” (2019).

Welcome

In 2014, the Institut français du Royaume-Uni imagined a Franco-Scottish research network around the humanities, literature and social sciences. Since then, a yearly pluridisciplinary doctoral seminar has been organised every Autumn at the Institut français d’Ecosse in Edinburgh. The seminar gathered together an eminent scholar from France as well as academics and PhD students from Scottish universities (namely Edinburgh, St Andrews and Glasgow) around one particular research topic. Prior to each seminar, our invited scholar gives a public keynote lecture. This interdisciplinary event aims to develop a network of humanities researchers across academic and linguistic boundaries. I wish to thank the members of the scientific committee who have been supporting this project since its beginning!
